Whether it is drumming or business, everyone tries to skip the fundamentals and go straight to the complex, fancy stuff.
But you always come back to the basics. You will always come back to the boom-smack, because that is what moves people.
You need to market yourself. As soon as Facebook opened up in 2007, I got on the platform. I thought, let me just put up something once or twice a day and see if I can find an audience.
In the early years I had so many doubters and haters. But my friend Jim McCarthy told me to push through in spite of those people and I am so glad I did.
When you stumble (and we all do), if you’re actually in pursuit of what you really want to do in your life, you will get back on track right away. No matter what is going wrong in my life, I know that I can get on a set of drums and be happy. Finding your ultimate purpose is so important. And the sooner you can do it, the better.
Constantly motivate yourself to keep moving closer and closer towards your definition of success. Move forward with all things in life so you are always evolving, always improving.
